Yesterday, I was driving on a side road to a farm that sells raw milk. A house had a sign out front that read “Thank a Vet”. I thought for a second and asked myself “why?”.
We fought ten years or so in Vietnam. JFK had sent emissaries to Vietnam to do an analysis of the situation and they told him to stay away, not to send the military. He was removed and LBJ sent the military due to a false flag event. 50,000 or so members of the US military died in Vietnam for no purpose. The only people who benefited from it was the military industrial complex.
Then the Reagan years. The military was running roughshod all over Central America and South America, doing the dirty work of the CIA. I know two people who were in the military at that time. One left because he figured out that the military being in Central America was illegal and he wanted no part of it. Another was stationed in Costa Rica. The news reported they were there but only carried side arms. He told me that they carried their usual gear, fully armed. And we all know it led to the Iran/Contra debacle.
Iraq 1 was a joke. The US drove Iraq out of Kuwait but mysteriously left Saddam Hussein alone.
Which brought us into Iraq 2 and the Afghanistan occupation. Once again, fake news was used about weapons of mass destruction. None were found, but we spent 18 years or whatever in those countries. The only people who benefited again were the military industrial complex and the private contractors who were sent to “rebuild Iraq” after we bombed them into oblivion.
Today we have the Iran situation. Who really knows what to believe what is going on. Trump says Iran is in shambles yet there are Iranian YouTube channels trolling that claim. Trump says Iran was on the verge of having a nuclear weapon, a claim that Israel has been making since the 1990s. But we have to bomb them for a weapon that probably had zero chance of hitting the US mainland, if it was even something that was true.
So, what did these vets fight for? Vietnam is half a world away from us but we had to send an army. Was Vietnam building a navy to attack our west coast? Central and South America are a mess because we made it that way. They were never going to be a threat because Hispanics have a difficult time being cohesive. I work with a lot of them and it’s nothing but backbiting drama. Iraq must’ve also been building a navy to attack our east coast. Yet we really know we were protecting the oil interests of the major oil companies.
The vets didn’t fight for the freedom of US citizens because they were not fighting on domestic soil. They were fighting on foreign soil miles away. I didn’t benefit because I paid taxes to support it.
So it seems the only people who should be thanking the vets are the military industrial complex, private contractors and corporations who had their business interests defended. Oh, and the drug cartels used to traffic the heroin from the poppy fields.
