Matthew 7:15-20

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits.

I was watching a video about my favorite Charismaniac Apologist Dr Mike Brown. The video doing the video was making the point that Brown is a hypocrite, and he is. He always talks about equal weights and measures but he never uses such a method. He gaslights, removes context and whatever other methods to discredit his current target.

The person doing the video brought up Heidi Baker. The clip was Brown and James White talking about Baker’s fake “drunk in the spirit (lower case intentional)” routine where she pretends to be drunk because she is filled with a spirit of some kind. It isn’t the Holy Spirit. It is a complete performance, a stage act.

And Brown defended it by pointing to her fruit.

Brown quoted Matthew 7:20, the end of the quoted passage at the beginning, about judging by Baker’s fruit. His contention is Baker and her husband planted thousands of churches and had authenticated healings. That is her good fruit, according to Brown, so she is someone to listen to.

What Brown, and others do not quote is the previous verses about good tree only produces good fruit and bad fruit comes from bad trees. Heidi Baker is a rotten tree so she can only produce bad fruit. If the churches she planted teach what she teaches then they are not good fruit but bad fruit.

Someone might ask about the miracles. It doesn’t matter if the miracles are legitimate or not. A person can still be a false teacher. See in Matthew right after the section I quoted, many will say at the end that they prophesied and did miracles and Jesus doesn’t say if they were real prophesies or miracles or fake, He just sends them to hell because of their unbelief and rebellion against God.

Only a good tree rooted in true biblical doctrine can bear good fruit. A bad tree with bad theology and blasphemous teachings will bear bad fruit. Heidi Baker is a rotten tree and I don’t think Brown is really much different. Many people give him the benefit of the doubt, that he might be a brother in Christ, but someone who continues to defend and run interference for the heretics like Brown brings serious doubts to that notion.
