The Irony of Some Things

I watch too much YouTube. I try not to spend any time on Facebook. My intention for keeping Facebook was to look for stuff on the marketplace. I don’t have any other social media, or I don’t frequent any other social media platforms. Funny thing, about once a month I get an email from Instagram telling me someone tried to change my password.

I try to limit my usage because I know what it is meant to do, trigger me. And I know I am prone to develop predictive behavior. I created a new Facebook account so I would not have any friends (which I didn’t really interact with anyway) but I think the algorithm is messing with me by putting leftist posts in my feed.

I have watched multiple videos from people telling their audience that main purpose of social media is to create an addiction, to foment animosity and further divide people of different paradigms. Social media main algorithm is to get people to come back for more. A lot of different people talk about this fact.

Here’s the irony. Most of these people making these videos to post on social media are a major source of income for these people. Their channels are monetized, or they ask people to go to their Patreon page and make a donation. They warn people of the addictiveness of social media but they derive their main income from posting on social media.
