I don’t think we fully understand the depth of government corruption. People call it a game of compromise. The truth is that it is a game, and the only real compromise are the players involved. By players I mean the politicians and their staffers, and by compromise I mean they are caught with their pants down with the wrong person of the wrong age.
When most people think of government corruption, they focus on the federal government and sometimes local government. It is rampant in all agencies.
An example of federal government corruption would be something like Ruby Ridge. It is an odd example and I understand there are many other financial examples of fraud like whatever USAID was doing with the money they received, but hear me out.
Randy Weaver and his family lived on Ruby Ridge, hence the moniker of the event. Weaver attended a local militia meeting. He was not a member of the militia but he did attend occasional meetings. If I remember correctly, from a documentary, he wasn’t a sworn member or anything. At one of those meetings, an undercover FBI agent asked Weaver to illegally modify shotguns (I think) and he would be paid. The FBI agent actually supplied the shotguns to be modified. Weaver eventually agreed only because he needed the money for his family. He said no several times. Now, the FBI has him on the hook and tries to get him to be an informant or go to jail. And Weaver said no and then we had Ruby Ridge, where the FBI completely overreacted and killed Weaver’s wife and maybe one or two of his children.
The corruption I see is the FBI using entrapment. They provided the shotguns and talked Weaver into doing something illegal. That’s basically entrapment. And this is not the only time the FBI has done this.
On the state level, just look at Minnesota, Maine and Massachusetts and the Medicaid fraud, among other types of fraud. It’s a lot to get into here. In Massachusetts, illegal aliens were given free housing in hotels, money to get cars and they did not need a license or insurance for those cars. Right now, in Massachusetts, the citizens approved of the appointment of a state auditor to audit the spending of the legislature, and she is trying to do her job. The AG of the state has taken her audit, fighting against all the way to the state supreme court. This audit was approved by over 70% of the people in Massachusetts, and the politicians are trying stop being held accountable. This is the other aspect of the corruption, they don’t want to be held accountable by those who elect them.
The corruption is just as bad on the local level.
I live in a small town just outside of Boston, maybe 15 miles. The town administrator for my town is also on the payroll of a city two towns over. Elected officials get a paid town job once they are no longer in office. I know someone who built a house in the town. He needed signatures for occupancy and the electric inspector was not in office at the town hall. He had to go to a bar at lunch time to get him to sign the paperwork. Another inspector was in Florida. He had to ask his uncle, who lived in Florida, to take the paperwork to the inspector plus some cash to get the paperwork signed. Also, there are a lot of shakedowns done by these inspectors. If a contractor wants to keep working he usually has to grease a palm or two.
The part that should anger everyone is the complaining these elected officials do for money. There’s not enough money to do this town project or that town project. This usually means they want to raise taxes. I graduated high school in the mid-80s. The high school was a dump when I went through it because I believe it was built in the 1950s. They didn’t replace the school until 30 years or more after I graduated. And the reason is the level of corruption in my town is outsized for the size of the town.
The complaint is that there’s not enough money for whatever needs to be done in public spaces. The reality is that there’s plenty of money, except for all the corruption that drains the public funds.
We have money to finance a war. We have money to give to illegal aliens to send back to their home countries. We have money to give raises to politicians, pay for their pet projects that only benefit a few people.
No politician cares about the people who actually pay the taxes and they certainly do not want them to know how their tax dollars are being spent.
