The Reality of the Judgment of Christ

But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence.’”
— Luke 19:27

This verse is at the end of the section of Luke 19 titled The Parable of the Ten Minas. Typical teachers probably ignore this verse because it is a representation of a harsh reality of the Judgment of Christ to the enemies of Christ. This isn’t just about the religious rulers in the audience of Jesus. This includes the unrepentant and unregenerate throughout all of history.

“Wait, so you mean to say Jesus will be ruthless in His judgment when He ascends His Throne here on earth? His physical kingdom to come? He will slaughter His enemies, put His foot on their necks in a visible act of forced submission? That’s not very loving, not at all.”

We can’t see Jesus as just the Judge who will separate the sheep from the goats. The goats won’t just be pushed into some type of holding pen and stay in an eternal pasture or barn. They will placed in the eternal lake of fire where they will slaughtered over and over for all eternity.

As Christians, we need to stop just focusing on the love of God represented by and through His Eternal Son Jesus Christ, as if that is all there is to the Almighty God. We forget that above all of God’s attributes is His Holiness. All of His attributes flow from His Holiness. It is His Holiness for which He demands the most honor.

Jesus is not a life coach. Give Jesus 10% off the gross of your earnings and your life will improve. Because more money solves all that ails you. Follow all the steps and rules and your life will be better. Feed the hungry, visit the sick, help the poor, do this and do that, and heaven will be here on earth.

Except it all doesn’t solve your sin problem. You can do all of it but don’t repent of your sins and turn to God for His forgiveness through the death and resurrection of His Son, you will die in your sins, and your good deeds will be all for naught. You will be separated from the sheep with the goats into eternal pain and suffering.

Jesus will call you before Him and put His foot on your neck. You must repent now because His wrath is as potent as His love.
