I don’t care what the reasons may be for Christian Nationalism. I may buy Stephen Wolfe’s book to find out what he thinks it is. The United States is not a Christian nation. The Constitution was not written by Christian men.
The United States does not nor has it ever had a special anointing from God.
The men who wrote the Constitution were not God fearing men. They were deists at best. They understood the concept of a higher power or god, but it wasn’t the God of the Bible. It was the god of the Enlightenment Era. They were materialists. What we see is all there is according to their worldview.
A lot of “important” people who believe they speak for God and other Christians believe we ought to be fighting to save this country. They tells us all about how evil the culture and that we Christians should be fighting that evil, to purify our country. They say we should fight and do this and Trump is going to lead us to paradise here on earth.
Sons and daughters of the God of Heaven, this is not our final home. It is not part of The Great Commission to redeem this planet. The Church did not replace Israel. We do not usher in the Millennial Kingdom of Christ.
One final thought. There is a passage in Luke 13:
Just at that time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him, “Leave and go from here, for Herod wants to kill You.” And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish.’
I have heard some claim this statement from Jesus about Herod was a political statement by Jesus. This is a case of eisogesis, or reading into the text what is not there because the reader has a worldview and is looking for a biblical proof text to support that worldview. And this is what Christian nationalists do with this passage. This is not a political statement by Jesus. This was Jesus dismissing the worry about Herod trying to kill Him because was going to die but not until the time that was determined before the world began. That was Jesus meant when He said “on the third day I finish.” He was on His way to Jerusalem to be crucified and nothing would change that predetermined time. Not Herod seeking to kill Him or the Jewish religious leaders.
And the comment Jesus made about Herod being a fox was not a political statement, it was moral statement or judgement about the moral character of Herod.
These are my preliminary thoughts on Christian Nationalism. I will research this more.
